INFORMATION

  • Foundation Skills are essential competencies needed for both work and daily life. They encompass:
  • Language, literacy, and numeracy skills (LLN)
  • Work skills like collaboration, self-management, problem-solving, learning, and digital literacy.

Industry and employer groups emphasize the importance of improving foundation skills for Vocational Education and Training (VET) learners and graduates. These skills form the bedrock for achieving vocational competencies at all levels.

To address this need, the Foundation Skills Training Package (FSK) has been developed to provide enhanced support and better outcomes for learners and trainers. FSK qualifications aim to equip learners with the foundational skills necessary for entry-level vocational training and employment.

AWT offers three qualifications from the FSK Training Package:

  • FSK10119 Certificate I in Access to Vocational Pathways
  • FSK10219 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways
  • FSK20119 Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways

Each qualification includes core and elective units covering learning, numeracy, reading, writing, oral communication, and digital technology. These units are aligned with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) levels, catering to diverse skill levels.

The FSK complements other training packages and can be adapted to various contexts, offering flexibility in program development. By prioritizing learner goals and employer needs, the FSK aims to enhance outcomes for learners, trainers, and employers.
