Academic and Learning Support

Our trainers and assessors are committed to helping you succeed in your studies. We provide: One-on-one academic assistance and mentoring Extra learning resources and revision sessions Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) support where needed

Career and Employment Support

We prepare you for real-world employment through: Work placement coordination with trusted industry partners Career planning and pathway advice Job readiness coaching and employer introductions Resume writing and interview preparation workshops

Success and Wellbeing Support

Your wellbeing matters to us. Our dedicated Success and Wellbeing (Student Support) Team can assist with: Personal or study-related challenges Motivation, time management, and balancing commitments Referrals to SWS parters, professional counselling or community services where needed Development of an individual Learning and Support Plan tailored to your goals

Work placement is an essential part of many of our qualifications, allowing students to apply their knowledge and gain valuable hands-on experience in real industry settings. It provides students with the opportunity to practise their skills in a real workplace environment under the supervision of experienced professionals. And it forms part of the assessment requirements for qualifications in community services, aged care, disability support, early childhood education, and other people-focused sectors.

During placement, you will:

Gain practical, job-ready experience with real clients and industry teams
Develop confidence in performing day-to-day tasks relevant to your qualification
Build connections that can lead to employment opportunities after graduation

AWT’s Role

AWT works closely with a network of approved host employers across South Australia to help students find suitable placement opportunities.

Our Work Placement and Coordinator will:

Assist in matching you with an appropriate organisation
Ensure all compliance, safety, and insurance requirements are met
Maintain contact throughout your placement to support your progress and wellbeing

Before You Begin

You will need to meet specific industry and legal requirements, which may include:

National Police Check
Working with Children Check (WWCC)
DHS Screening
NDIS Worker Screening (for disability sector students)
Current First Aid certificate (as required by your course)
Manual Handling (as required by your course)
COVID-19 and immunisation evidence

These requirements ensure the safety of both students and clients in care or community settings.

Hours and Assessment

Each qualification includes a set number of mandatory placement hours as outlined in the training package.

You will also complete a Work Placement Logbook and other assessment tasks to demonstrate your competency and understanding of workplace responsibilities.
