Enrolling in a subsidised place
Choose your course & enrol
We confirm you meet the course entry requirements, verify your eligibility for subsidised training, and complete an Upfront Assessment of Need (UAN). Bring proof of identity, SA residence, and citizenship or visa status.
Upfront Assessment of Need
A short conversation about your career goals and course suitability, a check of your reading, writing and numeracy skills, and a Learning and Support Plan tailored to your needs.
Participant Number & agreement
We help you complete the Participant Agreement and register your Participant Number with Skills SA — it records your training progress with the Department.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Every student in nationally recognised training needs a USI — create yours in minutes at usi.gov.au, and you’re ready to start.

Who is eligible for subsidised training in South Australia?
You may be eligible if you live or work in South Australia, are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold an eligible visa on a pathway to permanent residency, and are 16 years or older and not enrolled in school. Different criteria apply for school-enrolled students. AWT confirms your eligibility during enrolment.
Can I access subsidised training if I already have a qualification?
Until further notice, non–school enrolled students can access subsidised training regardless of prior qualifications or training history, and can complete more than one course. Funding places are limited and subject to eligibility and availability.
What is the Upfront Assessment of Need (UAN)?
A short assessment all Skills SA providers complete with prospective students — covering your career goals, course suitability, reading, writing and numeracy skills, and any support needs. It ensures you start the right course at the right level, and may unlock up to five fee-free bridging units.
What do I need to bring when I enrol?
Proof of identity, proof of South Australian residence, proof of citizenship or eligible visa, evidence of prior study (for credit transfer or RPL), and Employment Services Provider details if applicable. You will also need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) — create one free at usi.gov.au.
