Step 1: Complete the right qualification
The industry-standard entry qualification is CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support. At AWT you can specialise in Ageing, Disability, or both (Dual). The course runs from 18 weeks with 3 days per week in the classroom plus online study, followed by a minimum 120-hour work placement.
Step 2: Get your screening checks
Before placement you'll need a current National Police Clearance and an NDIS Worker Screening Check (or DHS clearance), plus HLTAID011 First Aid. AWT guides you through each requirement.
Step 3: Complete your work placement
Placement is where learning becomes employment. Many AWT students are offered casual or permanent roles by their placement host. If you meet the criteria, AWT organises your placement for you.
Step 4: Check your funding eligibility
Eligible South Australians can access government-subsidised places through Skills SA — concession fees for CHC33021 start from $467.50. AWT confirms eligibility during enrolment.
