Why Work Placement Matters at AWT:

Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice

In today’s competitive job market, a qualification alone may not be enough to get you your dream job. Employers increasingly seek candidates with practical and real-world experience working with clients on a day to day basis. This is where work placement plays a crucial role in vocational education and training (VET).

At Australian Workplace Training (AWT), we understand the importance of bridging the gap between theory and practice. That’s why we incorporate work placement into many of our qualifications, providing you with invaluable hands-on experience and a competitive edge in the job market.

Why Work Placement is Essential

  • Industry Standards: Work placement is often mandated by industry bodies and regulatory authorities to ensure graduates possess the necessary practical skills to meet professional standards. This is especially true for fields like aged care, disability support, early childhood education, and community services, where direct client interaction and practical application of skills are paramount.

  • Skill Development: Work placement offers a unique opportunity to develop and refine your skills in a real-world environment. You’ll learn to apply theoretical knowledge, problem-solve, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.

  • Networking and Career Opportunities: Work placement opens doors to build valuable relationships with industry professionals. It gives you an opportunity to, showcase your skills and dedication during your placement which can leave a lasting impression, potentially leading to contacts that can open the door to future employment opportunities within the host organisation or through their network.

  • Confidence and Competence: There’s no substitute for hands-on experience. Work placement allows you to build confidence in your abilities, refine your skills, and gain a deeper understanding of your chosen field.

AWT's Work Placement Program

We’re dedicated to ensuring your work placement experience is both seamless and supportive. That’s why we take the burden off your shoulders and organise your vocational placement for you, provided you meet our eligibility criteria. This guarantees you the chance to gain hands-on experience and build valuable connections within your chosen field without having to stress of hunting for a placement partner yourself.

While specific requirements may vary depending on the qualification and industry, you can generally expect to need a current National Police Check and be up-to-date with your vaccinations. To learn more about the requirements, please visit the course page you are interested in.

  • Dedicated Placement Team: Our experienced team works diligently to match you with the right host organisation, considering your interests, skills, and career aspirations. In addition, we recognise that life can be busy. We’ll collaborate with you to find placement options that accommodate your schedule and preferences.

  • Strong Industry Connections: We’ve built strong relationships with a diverse network of industry partners across aged care, disability support, early childhood education, community services, and more.
