CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support

 

Australian Workplace Training offers the Certificate III in Individual Support via two delivery modes:
In class, and Externally (E-Learning).

With a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing or Disability), you’ll develop job-ready skills to work in home care, residential care and/or disability.

Choose to specialise with a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) and you’ll develop skills to provide person-centred care and follow individualised plans. Give physical and emotional support to older people to enhance their independence and wellbeing.

If you choose a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), you’ll support individuals with disability living in different environments. Learn how to foster independence, nurture wellbeing, and promote effective communication.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation.Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

When undertaking this qualification students have the option to complete a general qualification or to specialise in either Ageing, Disability, or both Ageing and Disability.

Ageing Specialisation – CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing).
The Ageing specialisation will provide the skills to commence a career in the community services industry and can provide a pathway into the Diploma of Nursing.
The focus of study is the well-being and independence appropriate to the aged person’s emotional, social and physical wellbeing.
This course educates in the skills required to work as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) in an aged care facility, a community support worker, a home care assistant or a community care worker.
The skills gained are those required to support and care for older people. Students will learn how to provide personal care, how to work effectively in aged care, provide support to people living with dementia, deliver care services using a palliative approach, and to work effectively with culturally diverse clients.

Disability Specialisation – CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
The Disability specialisation will provide the skills to support and care for people with disabilities.
Students will learn how to provide personal care, work effectively in disability support, support community participation and social inclusion, how to contribute to ongoing skills development, and how to work effectively with culturally diverse clients.
As a student you will focus on work health and safety, communication skills and learn about individualised plans for the person with a disability.
This qualification may provide an appropriate pathway into higher level Disability or Community Services as well as pathways to university courses such as Social Sciences, Social Work and Psychological Science.

Students also have the option to choose to specialise in more than one area.
For example students who are interested in both the Ageing and Disability specialisations can choose to specialise in both and complete the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability).

An interview with a Trainer will be arranged prior to your enrolment. In this interview any difficulty you might experience with your training will be discussed, these may be language, literacy or physical disabilities. If you have any concerns or special needs please discuss them with the trainer during the interview as support could be available for you.

In-Class Study
Students who choose to study via our in-class study mode can choose to attend classes at either our Adelaide CBD campus, or our Elizabeth campus.
The classes for the course will run throughout any school holidays, but will not be run on public holidays.

Adelaide CBD Campus:
– 5 days per week on Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 3.30pm.
– 18 weeks duration through full-time study

Elizabeth Campus:
– 4 days per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9.30am to 2.30pm
– 26 weeks duration over 2 semesters of full-time study

External (E-learning) Study
External (E-learning) students study this course at their own pace, however it is anticipated the course will be completed in approximately twelve to eighteen months, it can be completed earlier depending on the individual.
Students work at home on their theory work with self-paced units and have access to a trainer either face to face or by phone, fax, correspondence and email for assistance.

Students are required to attend block training for practical tasks, role plays, group activities, and demonstrations; as well as maintain monthly contact with their trainer via phone, email or face to face (please contact reception to arrange an appointment with your trainer).

During the course we will work with you to arrange a suitable venue(s) for work placement. At the end of the course you will be expected to have completed a minimum of 120 hours of work placement to enable the assessment of your ability to implement your training under working conditions.
To be able to attend the work placement it is a mandatory requirement from the placement facilities that students will need to have:
– Obtained the relevant clearances and screening checks for that facility (eg DHS vulnerable person, aged care sector, working with children check, national police clearance etc)
– Received their annual influenza vaccination, and
– Received at least one dose of a TGA approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccination; and
– Received, or have evidence of a booking to receive, a second dose of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine within the interval after the first dose; and
– Within four weeks of becoming eligible in accordance with ATAGI guidelines, the person receives, or has evidence of a booking to receive, a third dose (booster) of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine

The qualification is achieved by successfully completing all the core units plus the suggested elective units for your chosen specialisation.
This can be achieved by participating in training sessions, completing assignments and by demonstrating your ability by putting the learning into practice under working conditions during the work placement.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
